“Tower to Rock” Instructional Climbing Program
Two-hour instructional course at the tower prepares you for a half-day out on the real rock! This full day program is a great progression for families with mixed ages, couples, and friends looking for a good all-around introduction to the sport. Skills introduced are suited to the age of participants (e.g. belaying).
I. Spend 2-2.5 hours at the Footsloggers Climbing Tower learning basic skills while climbing.
- Equipment: harness, helmet, climbing shoes, carabiners, belay devices
- Knots: Figure-eight-follow-through, Figure-eight-on-a-bight, Clove Hitch
- Belaying, backup belaying, ground anchors, verbal commands
- Basic climbing technique (footwork, etc).
II. Travel to a natural rock site, to take the skills learned at the Tower onto the local granite cliffs! (about 15 minutes drive)
- Short hike through the woods to the base of the rock.
- Climbing and belaying, starting on low angle slabs and progressing to taller and more challenging climbs based on age/ability.
- Rappelling from the top while on belay from climbing instructor.
Includes a belay test for the Tower to be kept on file for future use!
